Pureology Hydrate Shampoo & Conditioner

Hey everyone!! I wanted to do my first review from the VoxBox that I received.

The product that I have used the most and have enjoyed the most are the Pureology Hydrate System Shampoo and Conditioner.

Like I've mentioned before, this is not the first Pureology product I have used. I have tried another shampoo and conditioner, each from different systems... But I think this may be my favorite from their line. I know from my own experience, each bottle costs about $28 and can be purchased at many salons, as well as Target. I'm not sure if there are any other stores that carry it, although I have a feeling Rite-Aid might have it (But don't quote me on this).

So you might be thinking that this is just a little too expensive for a shampoo/conditioner, but let me tell you... IT IS WORTH IT! My hair feels absolutely great while still in the shower and especially after. The shampoo lathers, without the use of sulfates, and its a really rich, velvety lather. This is probably my favorite aspect.

As for the conditioner, it's extremely thick coming out of the bottle, but it gives lightweight moisture to your hair. I know that a lot of conditioners, especially the cheaper ones, they either over-hydrate or under-hydrate and leaves you with tangled hair. This conditioner does neither.

There are only two downsides that I can find to this product. The first is a matter of preference. I enjoy very scented shampoos and conditioners, because the shower steam really amplifies the smells and its just an overall enjoyable experience to me. The scent of this product is real light and not real fruity or anything. So for some, this may be a good thing. The second is the shape of the bottle. It has a very skinny long neck. Therefore, when you start to run low on this product, you're really going to have to shake the bottle to get the product to run to the lid so that you can use all of it.

But overall, I would recommend using this product, because you will definitely enjoy it. If I were you, I would do some research on the Pureology Systems, to figure out which one would be best for you. They also have PureVolume, SuperSmooth, EssentialRepair, NanoWorks, and Specialty Care.

All statements are of my own free will and were not forced upon me in any way. I would however, like to thank Influenster for supplying the products reviewed in this post.

Say Yes To Carrots: Pampering Hair Mud Conditioner

Awhile back, I had looked into using the Say Yes To Carrots hair line. This was probably about two years ago. I looked at the ingredients on the shampoo, set it back on the shelf, and walked away. It contained Sodium Lauryl Sulfate! I was disgusted...

I stopped into Walgreen the other day, because the hair conditioner I have been using is absolutely horrible one and I was just fed up. I went back and picked up a tube of Everpure, and as I was walking all of the Say Yes To Carrots products in the skincare aisle caught my eye. I originally grabbed the packet of cleansing cloths, but then I noticed Pampering Mud Conditioner.

Of course, the first thing I did was to check out the ingredients, and I didn't see anything that jumped out as harmful. Just to be sure, I just ran it through Cosmetic Database, and it received a 4... and this is entirely because of that evil ingredient "fragrance".

Okay, so here are my thoughts.
For the most part, I am enjoying this conditioner, although its still not the best I have ever used.

It feels really good while its on my hair, like my hair is really soaking it up. And then, for the most part, while its rinsing, it feels good. My hair stays pretty soft... but it just aggravates me that one of the things it says it does, it really hasn't at all. It claims it untangles, but my hair is horrible to comb through after the shower!

I think this is just one of those products that really needs to be paired with the right shampoo. I'm still using a Lush shampoo, which tends to strip my hair, so maybe with a more moisturizing shampoo, it won't be such an issue. This one is a ton better than the other conditioner I had, so I'll definitely at least use up this bottle.

Go out and try this one... especially now that their products are SLS free, it sounds like I can support their company again!

A New PreConditioner!

It's been awhile since I have provided you with an actual beauty remedy, and I performed one this morning... so I would like to share it!

I am finding that I really enjoy Hair Pre-Conditioning.  You still get that deep conditioning without weighing it down, like can happen with a commercial deep conditioner.

In the past, I have performed 2 different, really simple remedies for you...  The first was when I slathered Mayo all over my hair.  & I didn't like that because, while it gave my hair TONS of shine, it also made it look dirty.  So, next I tried pure Olive Oil.  I liked that one a lot better, but it did weigh my hair down a bit.  I have found a really nice middle.  :D

Perfect Pre-Conditioner
I didn't measure any of my ingredients out, so here are some approximations.. feel free to adjust as you need.
  • 1 1/2 egg yolks (Egg yolks are great for dry hair/skin.  If you're not on the dry side, use 1 egg or if you're really oily, use an egg white.  Mine egg yolks were what I didn't use from my morning breakfast!)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil  (Olive Oil is verrryyy conditioning.  Use more or less depending on how dry your hair is)
  • 1 teaspoon honey (Honey is a humectant, which means it attracts moisture to your hair.)
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice (I used Lemon Juice for two reasons.  The first was because I'm trying to lighten my hair some, and lemon juice works for blondes.  It also adds shine to your hair.  If you're not blonde, I would suggest using Apple Cider Vinegar for darker hair.)

Mix all ingredients in a small container and then apply to your hair, concentrating on the ends.  Because the mixture is a little on the runny side from the oil, I used a hair color brush. Once I was done, I ended up just tying my hair back, but I think using a warm towel (maybe one that's a little damp) is a good suggestion.  This will open the cuticle and further deepen the conditioning.  The reason why I said to use a damp towel is because this will dry in your hair (and it kind of makes it hard to get out) ... so I just feel if it was kept a little wet, it'll keep the mixture damp.  You'll then want to leave it on for about 30-40 minutes and then you can rinse.  Anyways, after rinsing your hair, you just wash and condition as normal.

I noticed right away that my hair felt more moisturized than it did before going in the shower, even while it was wet.  Once I dried my hair, it felt super soft without feeling heavy.  And the shine is incredible!

I really think that no matter your hair type, you could enjoy a remedy like this... just adjust the ingredients as needed!

Much Love!!  Xoxoxo
